Dye recipe
This could have and be printed with the following print paste recipe using a disperse dyestuffs.
20g – 200g dyestuff mixed with 300 – 170 ml water into a paste form. (This can be made up of more than one colour to achieve the required colour and the variation of amount depends on the density of colour required, transparent colours requiring less than strong colours.)
Add this to 600g – 550g of crystal gum thickener and stir well to mix thoroughly.
Add 30g of a wetting out agent and mix thoroughly.
Add finally 50g methylated spirit at 50% and stir again into the mixture.
Other recipes use a oxidising agent and a acid donor instead of the methylated spirits.
You need to make up each colour required in this manner and then print and then fix onto the fibres through a saturated steaming method for 30 - 45 minutes and then wash out carefully.
The other main factor to take into account is that extreme care needs to be taken not to allow cracks in the print paste when it is applied to the fabric, especially when drying. Any cracking will take away from a even colouration of the design on the fabric.
