Floral Frocks

Print details

Medium weight viscose fabric which is made to look like linen but moves more fluidily and does not crease in the same way as linen.

It is probably screen printed rather than roller with type and size of imagery used. The colours inlude, black outline, lilac, 2 pink, green, 3 blues, and a base fabric used as a colour section of the design.

When made up into this dress, the fabric has been cut in lots of different directions to maximise fabric use but does not then follow flow of the design. This gives the impression of wild nature rather than a clearly repeated pattern.

All the block colours are used as a whole colour with no attempt at over lap to create a 3rd colour which this design could have utilized as a feature, the blocks of colour sometimes miss the black printed outline of the design but the overall effect is not compromised when this happens.

The design is printed over the selvedge. This design may well have been printed onto other types of fabric that may have been wider in width than the fabric used for this design. It is a common practise now to do this so that the maximum use was made out of the silkscreens so this garment would suggest it was also done then. This could have been in the same colourway but may have been in a different colourway to create a whole new fabric.
